(�����������) - The Seychelles Police is awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death of a 22-year-old British national.

The man was found dead in the Indian Ocean archipelago’s capital of Victoria, on Saturday morning.

"We have started an investigation to retrace his movements and find out who was with him on the night of his death,” the police spokesperson Jean Toussaint told SNA.

"When we found him there were no visible signs of injury on his body," added Toussaint.

The deceased was a crew member onboard the British Royal Navy frigate, HMS Richmond.

While in Port Victoria, the visiting vessel hosted a reception organized by the British High Commission to celebrate the official birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.

The British High Commission in Seychelles has confirmed to SNA that the family of the victim has been informed about the incident.

Port Victoria, the port of the capital of the Seychelles archipelago, is a popular port of call for rest and recreation for many military vessels especially those based in the Gulf of Aden and Horn of Africa and that are involved in different international anti-piracy missions in the region.

It is also the island nation’s sole commercial port used by container ships as well as tuna fishing vessels to unload their cargo.

The sailors are often seen going out at night in the capital of Victoria to unwind before resuming duty back at sea.

In February last year, two male US security officers onboard container ship Maersk Alabama were discovered dead on the ship while it was moored in Port Victoria, after a night out.

Toxicology reports revealed a lethal mix of heroin and alcohol caused the deaths of the two former US Navy SEALs.
